breakout Session 1

Using Behavioral Science to Develop and Deploy a CI
Strategy at a $100 Billion Company

Presenter:

Edward Blackman & Dale Gregory

DESCRIPTION:

The goal of the Enterprise Process Office (EPO) at ADM (Archer Daniels Midland Company) is to create a culture of continuous improvement (CI). To us, that means every colleague, every day, demonstrating CI behaviors. While early in our journey, we believe that respect for people and an investment in their development is an integral part of achieving our goal. While we’ve built on the shoulders of the traditional CI giants like Dr. Spear and Dr. Liker; we’ve also incorporated the wisdom of lesser-know giants from Behavioral Science (Dr. Aubrey Daniels, Dr. Dale Brethower) to ensure the success of daily CI behaviors from front line staff to the executive suite. This presentation will explore how we’ve applied successes from the field of Behavioral Science, along with industry-standard CI approaches to develop and deploy our CI strategy. Each week the EPO conducts catchball sessions with ADM directors, VP’s, and even Chief Executive Officers. We will conduct an identical session in this presentation to demonstrate the structure and delivery of a highly effective strategy.
