leadership: People, Purpose, & Passion

LEADERSHIP

What are the three main ingredients needed to support a team based, process improvement effort? In this training session, we will discuss the need to focus on improving the way work is done (process), the importance of developing a culture that supports improvement (leadership), and what the future might look like if all of this is done well (direction). Join Industry Week Contributing Editor and author of The Façade of Excellence; Defining a New Normal of Leadership John Dyer as he discusses a simulation and case study that demonstrates the impact of management vs. leadership. This interactive session is for everyone who wants to learn more about how culture, leadership, and trust impact lean and Six Sigma sustainability and expansion.

SIMPLE LEAN

The goal of the Enterprise Process Office (EPO) at ADM (Archer Daniels Midland Company) is to create a culture of continuous improvement (CI). To us, that means every colleague, every day, demonstrating CI behaviors. While early in our journey, we believe that respect for people and an investment in their development is an integral part of achieving our goal. While we’ve built on the shoulders of traditional CI giants like Dr. Spear and Dr. Liker; we’ve also incorporated the wisdom of lesser-known giants from Behavioral Science (Dr. Aubrey Daniels, Dr. Dale Brethower) to ensure the success of daily CI behaviors from front line staff to the executive suite. This presentation will explore how we’ve applied successes from the field of Behavioral Science, along with industry-standard CI approaches to develop and deploy our CI strategy. Each week the EPO conducts catch ball sessions with ADM directors, VP’s, and even Chief Executive Officers. We will conduct an identical session in this presentation to demonstrate the structure and delivery of a highly effective strategy.
